Vista Irrigation District - Conservation & Education

Check into one or more of the water conservation programs available through the district. These programs can assist you to more efficiently manage your water consumption and are offered free of charge in conjunction with the district’s water wholesale suppliers, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and San Diego County Water Authority.

High Efficiency Clothes Washer Voucher Program

Start thinking about saving water (and money) every time you load your clothes washer. Vouchers worth up to $175.00 are available to residential customers towards the purchase of a high efficiency clothes washer. Call (800) 986-4538 to request a voucher. Residential Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate

Single-family homeowners with at least 2,000 square feet of landscaping and four irrigation valves are eligible to apply for a rebate of up to $350 toward the purchase and professional installation of a 'Smart' weather-based irrigation controller. Unlike a standard automatic timer that turns on the sprinklers at set intervals, a ‘Smart’ controller uses weather data and site information such as plant type and sprinkler system output to adjust watering times and frequency. Residential Artificial Turf Rebate

Single-family residential customers can receive a rebate of $1.00 per square foot to convert up to 1,000 square feet of established irrigated natural grass to artificial turf. Funds are available on a first come, first serve basis. Sites must be pre-qualified before participating. California Friendly Homeowner Landscape Classes

VID offers free Homeowner Landscape Classes twice a year, in the Fall and Spring. All classes are held on Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the district's office located at 1391 Engineer Street in Vista. The following topics are covered: landscape design, plant identification, irrigation systems, and irrigation maintenance. Commercial, Industrial and Institutional (CII) Voucher Program

CII customers may obtain vouchers for ultra-low flush toilets, urinals, coin operated front loading clothes washers, cooling tower conductivity controllers and kitchen pre-rinse spray heads with automatic shut-off valves. Smart Landscape Program

This program provides grants up to $2,500 per irrigated acre to upgrade irrigation hardware. Commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-family sites may receive a total of $5,000. Public sites may receive a total of $10,000. Funds are limited.

Additionally, rebates of up to $0.50 per square foot are available for replacing natural grass with artificial turf.

Smart Irrigation Controller Voucher Program for Commercial, Public and Multi-Family Properties

This program provides vouchers worth up to $25 per station (maximum 48 stations) towards the purchase of an eligible weather based irrigation controller. Protector del Agua

The district offers Protector del Agua courses to landscape professionals several times a year. The Protector del Agua course is an education program for landscape technicians. The course is offered free of charge and is designed to provide information that will help professionals do their job more effectively. The skills presented in the course will help landscape professionals conserve water for their clients, and by doing so, save money.
