Water Conservation Stages

The district’s board of directors has adopted a Drought Response Conservation Program enabling the district to reduce customers’ potable water use under certain conditions, such as a general water supply shortage or failure of imported or local supply and distribution facilities. The program also identifies steps that need to be taken to conserve under varying water conditions.

The district has four drought response levels, Level 1 – Drought Watch, Level 2 - Drought Alert, Level 3 – Drought Critical and Level 4 – Drought Emergency. The declaration of each level is based on the condition of the potable water supply. Below are conditions under which each stage is declared and links to water conservation measures under each level.

  Level 1 – Drought Watch

Probability of a water supply shortage and up to a 10% reduction is required to meet anticipated demands. Water conservation measures are voluntary.
  Level 2 – Drought Alert

Increasing cutbacks required by drought or other reductions in supplies and a reduction of up to 20% is required to meet demands. Water conservation measures are mandatory.
  Level 3 – Drought Critical

Increasing cutbacks required by drought or other reductions in supplies and a reduction of up to 40% is required to meet demands. Water conservation measures are mandatory.
  Level 4 – Drought Emergency

Water shortage emergency is declared and a reduction of more than 40% is required to meet demands. Water conservation measures are mandatory.

As soon as a particular condition is declared to exist, the potable water conservation measures provided for that condition will apply to all district potable water services until a different condition is declared. Please be aware that non-compliance with the measures required in each drought levels 1 through 4 may result in a violation being issued and a fee being added to your water bill.
